2.1- Digestive System Hormones
Gastrin: Secreted from the stomach, its function is to stimulate the stomach to
secrete hydrochloric acid and begin the digestion of food.
Secretin: Stimulates the pancreas to secrete fluids to neutralize
the acidic food coming from the stomach.
The hormone is stimulated by stomach acid.
Cholecytokolin: Its secretion is stimulated by fats, which in turn stimulates
the pancreas to secrete digestive juices.

2.3 Insulin Hormone
Secreted by the pancreas
Its primary function is to facilitate the entry of glucose into cells
and lower blood sugar levels
2.4 Glucagon Hormone
A hormone that helps release glucose from the body
and prevents diabetic coma, which raises
blood sugar levels
2.5 Somatostatin Hormone
This hormone inhibits the action of intestinal hormones
Now that we've discussed the digestive system, let's talk a little about the most important element the intestines need to support the balance of vital processes.
3- Fiber
3.1- Soluble Fiber
This is fiber that dissolves in water and is digestible
and easily dispersed, such as pectin and hemicellulose.
3.2 - Its Functions and Benefits for the Body:
Slows absorption / Lowers cholesterol /
Reduces bad fats / Slows gastric emptying /
Increases satiety.
3.3 - Sources of Soluble Fiber
Lentils, grains, and legumes
White oats and bran
Fruits and nuts
Cucumbers and carrots
3.4 - Insoluble Fiber
This includes cellulose, lignin, and some types of heme fiber.
Cellulose.
Found in vegetables and most grains.
Consuming it treats constipation and irritable bowel syndrome.
3.5 - Insoluble Fiber
Beneficial for gut health
Has a laxative effect on stool
Helps in the reverse movement of food
Slows down the passage of food through the intestines, thus promoting absorption.
3.6 Constipation and Fiber
We recommend 6-20 grams of bran per day, which increases stool bulk and bowel frequency.
If this is ineffective, we administer a lactose laxative.
3.7 Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and Fiber
Fiber is used to treat IBS in some cases and helps alleviate abdominal pain.
We give 12-16 grams of bran per day to treat constipation associated with IBS.
3.8 Diabetes and Fiber
Fiber is considered an effective treatment for diabetes.
A diet rich in fiber helps lower blood sugar.
3.9- Fiber and Colon Cancer
Fiber contributes to reducing the risk of colon cancer.
Increased fiber intake and fermentation reduce the secretion of toxins in the colon.
Fiber also helps food move faster and viscous, reducing its retention in the colon and the formation of toxins.
4- Let's talk a little about the glycemic index:
The glycemic index
is an index that shows how much a food raises blood sugar levels.
When we say that a food has a glycemic index of
30, we mean that eating 100 grams of this food raises blood sugar levels to 30.
